The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced daily lane closures as a contractor removes trees and other woody vegetation from within 30 feet of Interstate 19.
A three-to-five-mile stretch of road will be reduced to one lane each day to give crews more room to work and ensure passing vehicles are not struck by debris.
The project started in Nogales and is working its way north to Tucson.
The partial closure will be in effect during daylight hours Monday through Saturday until the end of March.
The project is the first in a line of upcoming ADOT projects that will focus on removing large plants from the sides of highways.
The department thinks clearing such vegetation will lower the number of injuries caused by vehicles hitting woody plants on the side of the road.
