The City of Tucson is partnering with two agencies to expand its homeless work program.
Operators of the program hope to serve a more diverse group of people by adding these partnerships and expanding from two days a week to three.
Starting in July, women from the Sister Jose Women’s Center will work at the Pima Animal Care center once a week for five hours. The program has a goal of giving people in Tucson a pathway out of homelessness through work, access to services and community involvement.
The one-year pilot program offers $10 an hour in cash for workers. Those who participate also receive access to services, two meals and a shower.
More than 150 people have participated in the day-labor program since it began six months ago.
