Listen:
Do you ride the bus? The city of Tucson is proposing changes to some bus routes and wants to hear from the public before it makes a final decision.
Sun Tran wants to make changes to 14 bus routes to help the service be on time more often, or to change the schedules based on how people use the bus routes.
It’s also to make sure the system meets its budget for next year, said Jeremy Papuga, the city’s transit administrator.
The city is funding the transit system with about $49 million next fiscal year, the same amount as this year. Gas prices and rider fares differ each year, he said.
"If there are fluctuations in those areas it’s difficult for us to maintain the same levels of service with the same budget if those factors are changing," he said.
An example of a proposed Sun Tran route change is to reduce the frequency of stops on Broadway route 8 in the mornings and Park Avenue route 25 in the afternoons. The changes are scheduled to go into effect next month.
