Thursday's final census of bicyclists will count only those pedalers with beards. The census takers will be at North Sixth Avenue and East Seventh Street (pictured above).
Don't have a beard? Living Streets Alliance, a Tucson alternative transportation advocacy group, will lend one to paste on for any rider who wants to participate. Beards will be available at the census station during the one-hour count, 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Living Streets Alliance is pushing Tucson among 10 cities competing to win the title from a national organization called People for Bikes. Alliance staff members said in a press release that the city was "neck and neck" with Memphis in the competition.
