Tucson Mayor, Pima Aim to Push Affordable Care Act Enrollments

Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, county's health dept. have strategies to raise awareness on importance of signing up.

Listen:

Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild is participating in events aimed at raising awareness about the health insurance exchanges.

He said he feels local office holders lend a unique voice to the push to offer insurance to all Americans, because they have a closer relationship with their community.

"When we speak to our constituents, they are people that we already know," Rothschild said. "People we've shook hands with, people that we've knocked on their doors, and I think that there's a little more sense of familiarity so maybe people will listen."

He's currently working with Enroll America, a group focused on increasing the number of insured Americans.

And, Rothschild's office is not alone in aiding Southern Arizonans sign up for insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

The Pima County Health Department has a website designed to help people find places where they can get enrollment assistance.
