Tucson Medical Center Opens Wellness Center at a Shopping Mall

Fitness classes, lectures and medical screenings will now be happening at La Encantada.

Listen:

The Tucson Medical Center is opening a center at a high-end Tucson shopping mall.

It's not for emergencies or doctor's visits. Instead, TMC's latest satellite, called The Core, will open at La Encantada in north Tucson.

There’ll be fitness classes, lectures by athletes and physicians, and medical screenings.

Director Tim Bentley said The Core is neither a gym nor a medical clinic, but a resource for the community.

"As more and more people become engaged with their healthcare and what it means to them, TMC wanted to take a leadership role in making a different and new, unique model where people can engage with their healthcare," he said.

Bentley said the hospital has a long history of community engagement, but the La Encantada location will help it reach affluent members of the community that it hasn’t in the past.

“That really is an underserved portion of our community, in terms of hearing our message of TMC being your community partner, being your community healthcare, being your non-profit local community hospital," he said.

The center opens Friday.
