The state vaccine pod at the University of Arizona has administered close to 200,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine since mid-January.

As demand has slowed at the UA site, and across the state, the university is using its mobile health units to get vaccines into underserved areas.

“To date, the University of Arizona mobile health clinic…has dispensed well over 10,000 doses of vaccine across the state,” said Dr. Robert Robins, President of the University of Arizona.

The university’s mobile clinic will be in Nogales, Arizona on Wednesday to vaccinate truck drivers who travel back and forth across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Vaccine disparity among ethnic groups is a continuing concern for state health officials.

According to the university, 27.3% of people getting vaccines at the on-campus site self-identified as Hispanic or Latinx, 4.2% self-identified as Asian, and 2% identified as Black or African American.

The demographic numbers at the university are similar for Asians and African Americans but higher for Latinos.

As of Monday, nearly 30% of Arizona residents have received a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine.
