Customers of Southwest Gas should see their bills drop in the coming weeks.
A release from the Arizona Corporation Commission said the company is dropping its Gas Cost Balancing Account charge beginning October 1st, and that will save residential customers an average of about $7 a month.
The rate was previously set at about 31-cents per therm, which is the standard measurement of fuel use mentioned on a customer's bill. The rate change comes as Tucson heads into the time of year when natural gas usage is at its highest.
A typical Arizona household covered by Southwest Gas uses about 23 therms per month on average, though actual usage varies greatly depending on the season. A spokesperson said typical summer usage is around 11 therms a month, while that number jumps to 35 in the winter.
Southwest Gas' provides natural gas to customers in much of Southern Arizona, including parts of Pima, Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pinal, Maricopa, Yuma and La Paz counties
