An electorate poll found that Latino voters in Arizona say the president and Congress addressing issues at the border were of lower importance than other top issues of inflation, jobs, housing costs and other economic issues, abortion, and crime.
Gary Segura, with the research firm that administered the poll, says it also found that Latinos prefer an immigration policy that pairs border enforcement with a path to citizenship.
“In one basket, we offer border security, allow people to come with visas and a path to citizenship for long-term undocumented residents,” he said. “In the other basket, we also had border security and limiting immigration overall and engaging in mass deportation of undocumented persons.”
In Arizona, respondents preferred the path to citizenship option at a rate of two-to-one.
Despite these findings, the vote for the Republican presidential ticket increased in Arizona counties that are majority Hispanic and Latino. And Arizona’s border security proposition 314 passed with more than 60% of the vote.
