Arizona's most competitive congressional district sits in its southeast corner. While many of the state's other districts are gerrymandered to the point of nearly ensuring a victory for one side, the Sixth Congressional District closely reflects the Arizona electorate, a slight Republican edge, and a near-even share for Democrats and voters with no party affiliation.
This year's race for the seat features a repeat of 2022, which saw republican Juan Ciscomani defeat democrat Kirsten Engel by 5,200 votes.
When The Buzz asked each candidate for an interview, we also asked that they pick a location.
Ciscomani's staff chose an event at Pima Community College's Northwest campus where he was honoring veterans who continue to serve their community after leaving the armed forces.
Former Arizona state lawmaker Kirsten Engel is running as a Democrat to defeat Ciscomani.
Her campaign suggested we head down to Sahuarita and talk as she finished up a meeting and tour at the local food bank.
The candidates were asked about the border, immigration, abortion, and water issues.
The race for CD 6 is a key one for both sides of the political aisle as they fight for control of the tightly partisan U.S. House.
Both sides are raising millions with more money from outside groups pouring in.
