A former University of Arizona basketball athlete is spreading the word about healthy living.
Joseph Blair played for coach Lute Olson's 1994 men's Final Four semifinalists. He organized a 2-day basketball camp for underserved Tucson high school students over the weekend with a focus on nutrition.
"When you start thinking about your health and wellness, this is the one thing that should be more important than anything," he said.
Blair emphasizes healthy, plant-based food, and chose to have Tucson restaurants provide vegan lunches and snacks for the kids and staff at the camp. He says he developed a passion for vegan food during a 13 year professional basketball career played mostly overseas.
The camp was held in collaboration with Easterseals Blake Foundation, which provides disability, behavioral health and family support services to more than 30,000 families across southern Arizona.
