Hobbs on Senate's failure to pass Bipartisan Border Security Package: "It is incredibly unfortunate and frustrating."

Governor Katie Hobbs is joining a growing chorus of elected officials in Arizona expressing their disappointment that the U.S. Senate stripped the border security portions out of a bill that also provided foreign aid to Ukraine and others. She made her comments at a meeting yesterday with business leaders in Sierra Vista.

“I hope we don’t continue to see trips to the border for photo ops and press conferences, especially when it’s nothing more than hypocrisy from these members who refuse to support this legislation that would actually provide solutions to the problem,” said Hobbs Tuesday during a Q and A with Chief Executive Officer with the Sky Islands Regional Partnership Melany Edwards Barton. "Coming down to the border, taking pictures, doing press conferences, isn't doing anything to solve the problem. But taking action on this legislation would have."

Last week, Senators Krysten Sinema and Mark Kelly both said politicians who want to come to Arizona just to hold a news conference about immigration problems but voted against the border provisions are not welcome. The bill was negotiated by Sinema and a group of Republicans and Democrats. It also had the support of the Border Patrol Union.
