The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is awarding the University of Arizona $96,000 to educate Arizonans about groundwater.
The funding comes from the Environmental Education Grants Program, which promotes education projects that further environmental education and stewardship.
The EPA selected 33 organizations to receive over $3.1 million in funding this year.
The UA’s project titled, “Improving Groundwater Quality Through Community Education,” will feature a roving, interactive exhibit for underserved communities about their groundwater systems and provide professional development opportunities for Title 1 educators.
The traveling exhibit will visit twelve communities, one per month and feature guest speakers and movie nights to show videos about groundwater systems within their communities.
Since 1992, EPA has distributed over $91.3 million in environmental education grant funding to support over 3,922 project that address environmental concerns.
