Governor Katie Hobbs is leaving the state and Attorney General Kris Mayes will be in charge during part of the absence.

Mayes will serve as acting governor from now until Friday afternoon.

In an email sent to Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and Mayes, Hobbs said that she will be out of town for a national governor’s conference in New Jersey.

Mayes will be serving in the interim role until Fontes returns to Arizona on Friday. Fontes will serve as acting governor from Friday to Sunday.

Arizona's Constitution makes the Secretary of State second in line for the Governor's office.
