The Buzz for July 7, 2023
This week, The Buzz preview a new podcast from NPR member station KUNC. Thirst Gap: Learning to Live With Less on the Colorado River travels the length of the Colorado River, from its start in the mountains of Colorado to its terminus in Mexico.
In the premiere episode, host Luke Runyon traces the Colorado River’s problems back for more than a hundred years to a time when its flows were first being measured and the number of people looking to get a portion of that water was much lower.
Future episodes head to Lake Powell, the Navajo Nation and the Colorado River Delta, among other locations, all while examining how demand for Colorado River water became so much higher than its supply, and what people are doing to try and put those two forces closer to equilibrium.
This story is part of ongoing coverage of water in the West, produced by KUNC in Colorado and supported by the Walton Family Foundation. KUNC is solely responsible for its editorial coverage.
