Tiny Homes - Vail School District

The Vail Unified School District is trying to recruit and retain more teachers by working with developers to provide affordable housing opportunities for educators in the district.

In order to combat the widening economic gap, different organizations are finding creative ways to provide affordable housing for those in need. The Vail School District is focusing on building a tiny home community to retain and provide resources for teachers and employees.

Finding affordable housing is a struggle for new instructors and Vail School District is the first in Arizona to try and remedy the issue by providing the option of tiny homes. Vail School District owns a 14-acre lot with room for 24 tiny homes that students from Cienega High School helped construct through the school's building-trades program. The cost for educators to buy the 400-square-foot house ranges from approximately $60,000 to $70,000. They also have an option to rent.
