Evictions in Pima County have risen slowly since the U.S. Supreme Court lifted the eviction moratorium last August.
Andy Flagg, of Pima County’s Community and Workforce Development Department, said the county is below pre-pandemic filing levels, but it's getting close.
Still, not every filing ends in an eviction. Some tenants find a way to stay in their homes through federal rental assistance funds, which Flagg said should still be available for a while.
"It's a little harder to track the outcomes of folks who come through our program," Flagg said. "But we see a number of cases where the judgment gets entered, even the writ may get issued, and we're still able to help the tenant and landlord complete the rent assistance process to keep the tenant in their place."
In December, there were over 800 filings, but the court issued about 300 lockout notices.
