University of Arizona scientist Eugene Chang

People reporting COVID-19 symptoms often note they lose their sense of smell. University of Arizona scientist Eugene Chang says the body’s natural defense against COVID-19 disrupts the neurons that transmit the sense of smell to the brain, and some people never get it back even after recovering from the coronavirus.

Eugene Chang spoke with Tim Swindle, director of the Lunar and Planetary Lab at the University of Arizona.
