The evacuation area from the Bighorn Fire in the Santa Catalina Mountains continues to grow. On Thursday morning, evacuation alerts were issued for residents in the area of Peppersauce Canyon to Highjinks Rd./Campo Bonito area of Oracle as well as lower Catalina Highway/lower Mount Lemmon communities.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department told residents to evacuate immediately to a shelter or with family or friends outside of the affected area.

Pima County sheriff’s deputies went door to door in the Santa Catalina Mountains Thursday to notify residents of an expansion of the evacuation area threatened by the Bighorn wildfire.

The local Red Cross has re-opened an Evacuation Center at Canyon del Oro High School, on Calle Concordia, in Tucson.

The Sheriff's Office said the Bighorn Fire’s evacuation area on Mount Lemmon was expanded to include Willow Canyon. It wasn’t immediately known how many homes were affected.
