McCain Footage Featured in New Republican Ad

The ad uses video of the late U.S. senator attacking a Democratic candidate.

An ad paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee using footage from the late Sen. John McCain's 2016 campaign attacks Democratic congressional candidate Ann Kirkpatrick.

It begins with footage of McCain attacking Kirkpatrick during their election duel in 2016.

McCain's family has condemned the use of his image in the new ad.

Kirkpatrick is currently running for Congress in Arizona's 2nd Congressional District against Republican Lea Marquez Peterson.

The Marquez Peterson campaign issued a statement about the ad.

“Lea has the utmost respect for Senator McCain and his service to Arizona and the country. Legally, we are not allowed to coordinate with organizations who choose to make independent expenditures in this race," said Chris Scotten, campaign manager for Marquez Peterson.

On the day of McCain's memorial service in Phoenix, the Marquez Peterson campaign issued a statement condemning an attack ad paid for by national Democrats. They said it was inappropriate to attack her while she was attending McCain's memorial service.
