UA Expands Business Incubator

Joann MacMaster begins as new director

Innovation_Center_617x347 Kimberly Craft interviews Bruce Wright, CEO of the University of Arizona's Science and Technology Park, and Joann MacMaster, director of AZCI.

This past summer Governor Jan Brewer granted the University of Arizona $1.5 million to enhance the Arizona Center for Innovation, or AzCI. Founded in 2003 and located at the UA Tech Park, AzCI helps emerging technology companies prepare business plans, develop products and services and even secure financing.

The grant will fund new lab equipment, establish a mentoring program and develop a commercialization training program with the intent to expand the program statewide. Joann MacMaster took over as director on January 3, 2011 and joins AzCI president Bruce Wright to talk about the importance of the business incubator and the long range benefits the grant and the center will bring to the state.
