Southern Arizona’s regional science fair organization is competing for a $100,000 prize for innovation from the Drucker Institute.
The Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation is best known for its annual science fair for students in kindergarten to 12th grade. It also takes staff to schools throughout the region to introduce science, technology, engineering and math topics to underrepresented students.
Tucson-based SARSEF is one of 10 finalists nationally for the 2017 Drucker Prize, awarded to a nonprofit organization that demonstrates leadership guru Peter Drucker’s vision of innovation.
The Drucker Institute, based in California at Claremont Graduate University, notes the science foundation’s emphasis for teaching students in Arizona to make decisions based on data and evidence to solve real-world problems.
The prize winner will be announced Sept. 29.
