The law expanding school vouchers to all children in Arizona is on hold. A citizens group brought a yellow school bus with school children and more than 111,000 signatures gathered to stay the law.
The Arizona secretary of state’s office will now verify those signatures. If there are 75,000 valid signatures, Arizona voters will get a chance to vote the law up or down in November 2018.
Backers of the voucher expansion say stopping the law denies children the best chance to learn, while opponents say it does nothing but hurt the kids left behind in public school classrooms.
We’ll also look at some of the new laws that went into effect this week and visit with Nogales business owners as they prepare for the renegotiation of NAFTA.
