Episode 149: Who's on the Ballot for Tucson City Council Primaries?

Interviews with Ward 3 Democrats and Ward 6 Greens.

Ballots go out to voters in Tucson next Wednesday, Aug. 9, and two City Council wards feature contested primaries. Hear from all the candidates on the ballot in this episode of Metro Week.

Ward 3 Democrats

  • Felicia Chew is a mom and middle school teacher. She says she is focused on sustainability and water issues, as well as creating community. She has been on the city’s Citizen Police Advisory Review Board and is trained as a victim advocate. More info on her website.

  • Paul Durham says he is a solar energy advocate and wants to improve the quality of life in Tucson. He is a business lawyer and has an MBA in finance. He founded the Tucson Community Supported Agriculture program. More info on his website.

  • Tom Tronsdal is a small-business owner and serves on the board of directors for the Arizona Center for Autism. He wants to build stronger ties with neighborhoods and empower neighborhood associations. He also wants to strengthen the city’s relationships with nonprofits. More info on his website.

Ward 6 Greens

  • Mike Cease is chairman of the Pima County Green Party. He posts about social justice, solar energy and environmental issues. Those are some of the main platform issues for the Green Party. Cease ran for Pima County Recorder last year. More info on his Facebook page.

  • Michael Oatman says the city needs a progressive representative to help change the direction of the council and initiate policy changes rather than rubber stamp the city manager. He previously hosted a show on Access Tucson called “Illegal Knowledge.” More info on his website.
