Mexico’s ambassador to the U.S. visited Arizona this week and said the recent election has provided an opportunity in its own way, despite worries about the future relationship between the two countries.
In an interview with Arizona Public Media, Ambassador Carlos Manuel Sada praised the state’s potential while emphasizing the need for strengthening ties between the U.S. and Mexico.
Sada also awarded Pima Community College $80,000 in scholarships for immigrants and citizens of Mexican descent, the third such grant from his government’s Institute for Mexicans Abroad, a press release said.
Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Claudia Ruiz Massieu also came to Tucson this week, marking her second visit to Arizona in less than a year.
Andrew Coen, a constitutional law professor at the University of Arizona, spoke to Arizona Week about the feasibility of promises made during President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign and how much power a president really has, especially considering issues like the future of the Affordable Care Act.
On the campaign trail, Trump said he wanted to eliminate Obamacare, and more recently he has said he intends to make some changes to the act. This week the president-elect announced he will nominate Congressman Tom Price for secretary of health. The Georgia representative is a physician and vocal opponent of ACA.
Arizona Week also takes a look at an announcement made Tuesday that an automotive plant for the carmaker Lucid is coming to Casa Grande after the company visited 60 sites in 13 states.
