With Arizona’s United States Senate seat up for grabs, three Republicans are vying for their party’s nomination.
Early voting has already started for the Aug. 31 primary, which incumbent John McCain has called the political fight of his life.
McCain, a decorated veteran and the Republican nominee for president in 2008, has held the seat for 30 years. He faces his toughest opposition, polls show, in Kelli Ward, a physician and former state legislator who says her experience makes her the perfect candidate to retire McCain.
Polls show the third candidate, Clair Van Steenwyk, trailing the other two. The former radio show host is also running for a seat in the U.S. House.
Whoever secures the nomination will face Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick, and polls show the Democrat in a neck-and-neck race with McCain.
