The deadline to file income taxes is weeks away, but many income tax assistance sites are closing down for the season before that.

Some of the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program sites will hold their final day of tax help this week.

The closing of VITA sites does not mean tax assistance for those making less than $62,000 a year is done though.

“While many of our community sites will be closing by April 9, we’ll still be able to assist last-minute filers at our annual VITA Madness event at the United Way office,” said United Way's Rae Pilarski.

VITA Madness will take place at the United Way's office at 330 N. Commerce Park Loop, Suite 200. Tax preparers will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 15 and 16, and from 10 a.m. until midnight on April 18.

Along with in-person help, United Way also offers free online self-preparation software at their website.
