AZ Week: Medicare Policy Will Change End of Life Planning

Doctors and patients now able to have more conversations about next steps.

Arizona Week starts 2016 with a look at what Medicare changes will mean for patients and doctors.

In addition, the program previews the upcoming Arizona legislative session and Gov. Doug Ducey’s state of the state speech.

On the program:

  • Medicare added coverage for end of life planning and care for Americans 65 and older in January. One change will allow physicians more chances to discuss end of life planning.
  • Almost half of Medicare beneficiaries die when in hospice, double the number from 15 years ago. Arizona Public Media’s original documentary Passing On will take a deep look at this stage in life. It premieres Feb. 22 at 9 p.m. on PBS 6.
  • The Buzz: Host Lorraine Rivera discusses the upcoming year in Arizona politics with AZPM reporter Christopher Conover and Howard Fischer of Capitol Media Services in Phoenix.
