AZ WEEK: Higher Education Cuts Challenge Students

How do funding decisions at the state level impact the cost of a college education?

The Arizona Board of Regents met in Tucson this week and heard from students frustrated by another round of budget cuts. Arizona Week Friday looks at the challenges of affording a college education.

On the program:

  • Former Arizona Board of Regents member Dennis DeConcini weighs in on recent cuts to higher education funding at the State level and the costs passed down to students.

  • The last round of state cuts to higher education funding had a quantifiable impact on the University of Arizona. More than 300 jobs were cut, and the university will receive almost $30 million less in state funding.

  • Student media has questioned decisions made by state leaders in regard to higher education. Arizona Daily Wildcat Opinions Editor Nicholas Havey explains.

  • Sarah Netherton is president of the Graduate and Professional Student Council at the University of Arizona. At the regents' meeting, graduate students presented a petition protesting low wages, tuition increases and employee layoffs.

  • The Buzz: AZPM reporter Christopher Conover joins Lorraine Rivera to discuss the latest Arizona news.
