Bighorn Ram Rejoins Catalinas Herd

Arizona Game and Fish says his return bodes well for pack; good mating season, successful lambing season would bolster group.

Listen:

A recent recording shows the one and only ram in the herd of bighorn sheep reintroduced to the Santa Catalinas rejoin the group.

The ram spent much of the past few months roaming on his own, away from the ewes.

Arizona Game and Fish, which has managed the bighorn sheep reintroduction, said his return bodes well for the pack. A good mating season and successful lambing season would bolster the herd.

Sixteen of the original 31 sheep reintroduced from Yuma to the Catalinas last November have died, though no deaths have been reported in recent months.

Arizona Game and Fish said that shows the bighorns are now acclimating.
