'All businesses can benefit' as population gains economic influence

Latinos spent $7.3 billion in Pima County in the last year, showing their expanding economic muscle, says a newly released report.

The Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, says in its "DATOS: Tucson 2012" report that the Latino market is helping shape how businesses operate in Southern Arizona.

“All businesses can benefit from this information,” Hispanic Chamber CEO Leah Marquez-Peterson says.

The report is a collaborative research project among various organizations, including Arizona State University's W.P. Carey School of Business. The data point to a growing economic force, and Marquez-Peterson says the information can help businesses develop plans to reach Latino customers.

“By 2030, the majority of Pima County will be Latino,” she says. “I don’t think people are particularly surprised by that. But it’s important to understand the cultural nuances of working with the Hispanic community.”
