The University of Arizona will not increase tuition and mandatory fees for in-state students in the upcoming academic year.
UA President Suresh Garimella announced the plan to keep resident undergraduate tuition at $12,168.
"As our state's flagship, land-grant university, the University of Arizona mission includes the responsibility to provide broad access to an affordable world-class education," Garimella said in a press release. "By maintaining our current resident undergraduate tuition and fees, we are working to prevent financial barriers to academic opportunity. Our goal is to ensure our students graduate ready to shape a brighter future for their families, for Arizona and beyond."
However, this does not mean that tuition will stay the same for all four years a student is enrolled. Starting next fall, guaranteed tuition will be eliminated for incoming students–a decision made to rebalance UA’s finances. Guaranteed tuition was blamed as one of the reasons behind the university’s cash crisis under then-president Robert Robbins.
New in-state graduate students will see their tuition increase by 3%, far less than last year when it jumped by nearly 16%.
