Road Project Will Close Most of 22nd/Alvernon Intersection

Water, sewer line work will keep traffic out of much of the intersection through Monday

Listen:

Those who travel through Alvernon Way and 22nd Street may want to find a different route, at least until Tuesday.

Travel through the intersection will be severely limited for four days starting Friday.

Northbound, southbound and westbound travelers will all need to make a right turn at the intersection.

Eastbound travelers will not be able to make a left turn, and travel will be restricted to one lane.

22nd-Alvernon work

The restrictions come because of water and sewer line upgrades in the area.

Work in the intersection will continue into April, though road closures will not be as restrictive for the rest of the month.

Work along the north side of 22nd Street between Alvernon and Swan Road will continue until well into August.

Traffic data from the Pima Association of Governments show 22,000 vehicles travel through the intersection daily.
