Average Airfare Out of Tucson Going Up

1% increase in last year, to $397 for roundtrip ticket; Phoenix average declines to $363.

The average price for a commercial plane ticket in or out of Tucson continues to go up, and now sits just above the national average.

The newest numbers form the Bureau of Transportation show average airfare at Tucson International Airport running $397. The national average is $396.37.

Tickets in or out of Tucson have gone up about 1 percent in the last year.

The average ticket price for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is $363.32 and dropping. Sky Harbor's average declined 1.5 percent in the past year.

Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, which works exclusively with regional airline Allegiant Air, has the lowest fares of the countries 100 largest airports. Its average ticket price is $99.69, and is the only average fare under $100 in the nation.
