Gasoline prices may be the lowest going into Thanksgiving since 2008, but that does not mean Arizonans will be hitting the road in droves this year.

A forecast from AAA estimated 1.44 million Arizonans will leave town and travel on the roads this year. That's a 15 percent decrease from last year.

One possible reason for the drop is that gas prices have been five-year lows since this summer, giving many the chance to take road trips during the warmer months.

“Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day were all up year-over-year," said AAA Arizona Spokeswoman Valerie Vinyard. "Consumers may be saving up for the December holidays and taking a break this Thanksgiving.”

While AAA predicts roads will be less busy, they do not say the same about airports. The number of people who will hop on a plane will go up 9 percent from last year, reaching 98,740.
