Local Officials Push to Keep Cherrybell Postal Facility Open

Elected reps will host congressman who oversees US Postal Service for tour, meeting.

Some Tucson-area officials will have an opportunity to make a case for saving the Cherrybell Postal Processing Center Thursday morning.

Congressman Mark Meadows, the chair of the subcommittee that oversees the U.S. Postal Service, will tour the Cherrybell facility and take part in a roundtable discussion.

Meadows will meet with Tucson Congressional Representatives Martha McSally and Raúl Grijalva, Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and other officials during the visit.

The postal service originally announced that Cherrybell would close in 2012, but protests from elected officials at the local and federal level have kept the facility open.
