Shipping containers are put in place along the U.S.-Mexico border in Cochise County.
The stipulation agreement between the federal government and the state requires the removal of the container border wall that Gov. Doug Ducey ordered built in Yuma and the Coronado National Forest.
The four-page agreement says, "By January 4, 2023, to the extent feasible and so as not to cause damage to United States' lands, properties, and natural resources, Arizona will remove all previously installed shipping containers and associated equipment, materials, vehicles, and other objects from the United States' properties in the U.S. Border Patrol Yuma Sector, including from lands over which the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation holds an easement on the Cocopah Indian Tribe's West Reservation."
Arizona must also begin discussions within a week to remove the container wall in the Coronado National Forest.
The document instructs the state to "confer with representatives from the U.S. Forest Service for safety purposes and to avoid and minimize damage to the United States’ lands, properties, and natural resources."
The federal government and the Center for Biological Diversity sued Ducey to stop construction of the shipping container border wall.
