A new Pima County website is designed to help people with outstanding warrants resolve them without risking arrest or jail time.

According to the county, more than 30% of jail bookings include a “failure to appear” charge. The webpage will work to connect those seeking to resolve a warrant by explaining the necessary steps.

“Many in our community live every day in fear that even a relatively minor contact with law enforcement, like a traffic stop, may result in an arrest and going to jail,” Kate Vesely, director of the Justice Services Department, said in a press release. “Even a brief time in jail can affect employment, housing, and child care.”

It also has information for courts within Pima County including the Clear My Warrant program. The website launch comes from a partnership between the county’s Justice Services Department and Pretrial Services.

“We are hoping that through this website and our programs, we can reduce confusion about the justice system and give community members the tools to be proactive,” Vesely said. “You don’t have to wait until there is contact with police and get arrested before dealing with a warrant.”
