Former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake is leaving his position as Ambassador to Turkey in September.

The former senator is one of the highest-profile Republicans in the Biden administration. Flake was appointed in 2022 to aid Turkish relations as the U-S worked to bring Finland and Sweden into NATO.

The announcement that Flake will leave his post just a few months before the general election has raised questions about whether he’s decided to re-enter Arizona politics.

Flake was outspoken in his criticism of former president Trump throughout his first presidency.

Flake did not elaborate on his plans after his departure in September, but said it had been an honor to serve as ambassador on social media.
