Election night results showed that Congressional District 6 Democratic candidate Kirsten Engle led the polls with Republican candidate Juan Ciscomani following behind. But no one was claiming victory.

Ciscomani supporters filled his election night party at the beginning. But as the night continued and numbers rolled in, attendees made their way out. However, Ciscomani reassured his supporters that it was too early to call the race.

“There are still a lot of votes to be counted… and we’re really watching them carefully,” Ciscomani said. “But we’re very hopeful that we’re going to catch up and things are going to turn around for the final count [and] that we’re going to be in a position to be able to declare victory very, very soon.”

For Engel, she believes that this election showed that voters are tired of extreme right-wing candidates.

“We’ve had some very extreme Republican candidates running in Arizona,” Engel said. “ From Blake Masters to Kari Lake to Mark Finchem, election deniers… I think that’s really turned off a lot of voters.”

Ballot counting will continue across the district which includes eastern Pima County, along with Cochise, Graham and Greenlee counties.
