Tucson voters have defeated a proposal to raise the pay of the mayor and city council.

A final vote tally released Monday from the Nov. 2 election did not differ significantly from initial results, which showed Tucson on track to approve an increase in the minimum wage and elect three Democrats to the city council.

But it was too early to tell on election night if Proposition 410 would pass.

The final tally showed it failed by less than 1,000 votes.

The measure would increase pay for city council members and the mayor starting after the next municipal election in 2023.

The mayor's salary would be increased from $42,000 a year to $54,000. Council members would see a boost from $24,000 to $36,000.

Tucson voters have not approved a raise for the mayor or council since 1999.
