Moderate Republicans met with budget writers and House Speaker Andy Tobin until after midnight trying to strike a deal on a budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Rep. Ethan Orr, R-Tucson, said the negotiations yielded a compromise. But he called the deal “tenuous.”
One of the main sticking points was funding for Child Protective Services.
Orr said the group of negotiators spent more than an hour discussing the issue and in the end, "there will be specific funding for CPS, as well as additional provisions to protect children.”
The other main point of contention was money to allow district schools to become charter schools. Orr said that was also worked out.
The plan will be presented to Republicans this morning. If it survives that test it could be put to a vote in the full House this afternoon.
