Nearly Half of Early Ballots Requested in Pima County Mailed Back

More than 309K voters in region asked for one this election.

Listen:

Nearly half of early ballots requested in Pima County have been mailed back.

More than 309,000 Pima County voters requested an early ballot for this year’s general election. That is 62 percent of all registered voters in the county, and Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez said the rate is a bit slower than she expected, but it is about on target for a midterm election.

“I think citizens are still trying to decide on some of the candidates and the ballot questions," she said.

Republicans are returning their ballots at about a 48 percent rate, about 44 percent of Democratic ballots are back and 35 percent of no party ballots have been sent back to the Recorder's Office.

Early ballots need to be mailed by Friday so they make it on time for Election Day, Nov. 4.

People who miss the deadline can drop off their ballots at the Recorder's Office Monday or at any polling place Tuesday.

For voters who plan to cast their ballot in person on Election Day, Arizona law says people can get paid if they take time off to vote, as long as their boss knows a day in advance.

Polls are open Nov. 4 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.
