Host Jim Nintzel was joined by Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President Lea Marquez-Peterson, Republican strategist Sam Stone and Pima County Democratic Party Chairman Don Jorgensen, discussing:
IMMIGRATION REFORM: Stone said that the bill needed better metrics to determine whether the border was secure, while Jorgensen said that conservative Senate Republicans were offering amendments in an effort to kill the bill. Marquez-Peterson said she was concerned about the bill's provisions for foreign workers.
TUSD: Jorgensen said some of the Tucson Unified School District's troubles stemmed from a lack of funding from the state, but Stone said the district needed to revamp its approach to education before he would support additional funding. Marquez-Peterson said the district's ongoing struggles were of great concern to the business community.
DOWNTOWN: The panelists agreed that the recent openings of restaurants in downtown suggested the area is finally on the rebound.
