Congressman Raul Grijalva Takes Center Stage

In recent weeks, the Tucson Democrat has found himself at the center of many of the biggest stories on Capitol Hill

In recent weeks, U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva has been in the news: he sat in the courtroom for oral arguments on the federal Affordable Care Act and filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court regarding SB 1070, Arizona's controversial immigration law.

The Democratic congressman, who represents Arizona's seventh district, joins Arizona Illustrated to discuss his eventful week. He’s hopeful that the Supreme Court will let the Affordable Care Act stand, he says, and that if it is struck down, Congress will have to deal with some far-reaching consequences.

Grijalva also discusses the Paul Ryan budget plan making waves this week.

"The president [Barack Obama] called it today 'social darwinism,' and I absolutely agree," says Grijalva. "This is a survival-of-the-fittest budget."
