Nonprofit Program Aims to Bring Medical Care to Hispanics

Campesinos Sin Fronteras recently received donation from Mexican Consulate for community health screenings.

The Mexican Consulate in Yuma recently donated more than $35,000 to Campesinos Sin Fronteras, a nonprofit serving migrant farmworkers and the region’s low-income Hispanic population.

The money was donated to benefit the Ventanilla de Salud — or “health window” — program to conduct health screenings in the community. Campesinos Executive Director Emma Torres stresses the importance of taking health care to the people.

“I think the work of the Ventanillas is incredibly important because, precisely, it reaches out to those individuals who otherwise would go without any health care — because they don’t have health insurance or they don’t go to a doctor.”

The Mexican Consulate has donated to Campesinos for eight years and helps fund other programs across the United States that benefit Mexican nationals.
