The University of Arizona College of Medicine launches its first Diversity Seminar Series Monday, with a look at health issues affecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

The quarterly seminar series is the brainchild of the college’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, which is tasked with fostering fair, inclusive health care.
The inaugural talk features speaker Shane Snowdon, director of the program on health and aging at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Snowdon will speak on LGBT health inequities, anxieties and disparities.
The LGBT community faces significant health disparities, says deputy dean of diversity Francisco Moreno.
“They have limitations of access to care that are important for everybody to be very aware of," Moreno said. "So this is a way, I think, of training our providers to be sensitive and able to recognize what are the needs of this population.”
Moreno said the series will feature Native American and border health issues in future talks, all of which will be free and open to the public.
The seminar series begins Monday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m., in the UA Medical Center's DuVal Auditorium.
