AZ WEEK: New Money Meant to Bolster Border Security

Friday's program looks at the impact on people and law enforcement in border counties.

Gov. Doug Ducey announced in July that more money will go to border security. Arizona Week Friday looks at the impact on border county residents and the law enforcement agencies that protect them.

On the program:

  • Host Lorraine Rivera interviews Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada, whose office will receive less money than Yuma or Cochise counties from the new funding Ducey announced.

  • Some ranchers in Cochise County have run cattle in the desert near the border for generations. Arizona Week visits ancher John Ladd to get his take on border security.

  • Pima County shares more linear miles of border with Mexico than any other county in the country. Lorraine Rivera speaks with Chief Deputy Chris Nanos, who will soon be sheriff, about the toll border crime has taken on the area.

  • Rancher Fred Davis, who lives 20 miles north of the border in Cochise County, explains why his land is safer now than before.
