Signs of the Times: No Extra Cash

Most politicians buy their signs from out-of-town businesses

This election cycle is full of political signs for dozens of candidates and propositions, but it's little or no economic boost for local sign companies, their owners say.

Tucson-based sign company personnel report that a majority of political signs is purchased from companies in other cities or on the Internet.

The merchants say the local economy would receive a boost if more candidates decided to work with companies in southern Arizona.

Business owners in Tucson say they can provide a solid marketing program that will draw from experience and knowledge of the local community, tools that aren't as readily available to companies based elsewhere.
