From City of Tucson News Release:
The Business License Section at City Hall, 255 W. Alameda, and all other City cashier locations will be closed on Friday, May 28 (furlough day), and on Monday, May 31 (Memorial Day holiday).
Those making tax payments for May 2010 have various options:
- Payments made in person or by postal mail should be made prior to Friday, May 28.
- Payments can be filed online until 6 p.m., Monday, May 31.
- Payments may be left in drop box on north side of City Hall. Do not leave cash in drop box.
“The office to make tax payments has been closed for furlough before,” said Ellen Hitchings, Treasury Administrator. “This month’s closure might catch some people off guard as the last business day is now Thursday, May 27.”
Many people pay their state tax in person on the second-to-last or last business day of the month then walk over to City Hall to make their city tax payment. Hitchings adds that the City averages about 22,000 tax payments a month.
Notices have been posted at several City locations as well at as the tax payment office for the State of Arizona. In April, the Business License Section began alerting its customers via e-mails and in returns by postal mail.
